ONAM CELEBRATIONS 2005

 

Dear Member/s,

We are very happy to inform you that the Cultural Committee, Manchester Malayalee Association has decided to conduct various activities in connection with our 3rd Onam Celebration for the active participation of our members. These activities include various competitions for children, couples, men and women, variety entertainments by our talented members, messages from our honourable guests and our traditional ‘Onasadya’.

COMPETITIONS

Katha Rachana (Story Writing)       Separate Competition for Children and Adults (Language: English or Malayalam for Children

                                                     & Only Malayalam for Adults)

Kavitha Rachana (Poem Writing)    Separate Competition for Children and Adults (Language: As above)

Upanyasam (Essay Writing)            Separate Competition for Children and Adults (Language: As above)

Arm Wrestling (Single)                    Only Men can participate

Athapookkalam                               Team of 4 members (Male & Female can be in a team)

Tug of war (Vadam Vali)                Team of 6 members (Separate competitions for Male & Female)

Cards                                              Rummy (singles) & 28 (Doubles) (Men only)

Those who wish to participate in above competitions please submit their names before August 20th 2PM to any of the Cultural Committee Members. There will be a £1/- per head entry charge for these competitions to meet the expenses. (Children are exempted from the entry fee)  

ONAM CELEBRATIONS

Date:           17th September 2005

Venue:        Pakistani Community Centre, Long sight

Time:          From 12 Noon to 10PM.

Our Onam celebrations will start at 12 Noon with ‘Athapookkalam’ competitions. Followed by this we have arranged a number of fun filled competitions and various cultural performances. The celebrations will end with a delicious “ONASADYA”.  In between these activities the following personalities will address our Malayalee Community with their inspirational thoughts.

In order to make our celebrations a great success, we ask our members to come forward to participate in the cultural performances with their songs, dances, skits, comedy show or any other similar items. If interested, please don’t forget to contact our cultural committee members so that we can arrange a smooth running of the event.

FOR YOUR KIND ATTENTION !!!

1. The doors will be open for our members and guests at 12 Noon on 17th September 05.

2. Entrance fees for Guest will be £5 per person.

3. Competitions for Katha, Kavitha, Upanyasam, Cards and Arm Wrestling (only if number of

    participants are high) will be conducted on an earlier date.

4. As per the instruction from Pakistani Community Centre, “No alcohol should be served in 

    the premises”

5. Car Parking facilities are provided at Pakistani Community Centre, Long sight Library & ASDA.
