Dear
friends,
First
of all, let us express our sincere thanks to all our members for
their co-operation and support given to the Onam celebrations.
More than 300 people, including guests, attended the
celebrations. The Chief Guests were very impressed with our
activities and the Home Office Minister publicly acknowledged
our involvement in the MAKE POVERTY HISTORY CAMPAIGN. In the
coming months, we are planning to organize more events in this
direction which will empower our community.
During
the Onam celebrations, our (former) Secretary, Mr Afsar Aliyar
made some remarks which have hurt the feelings of our members,
including the Executive Council. Therefore, the Executive
Council has considered this as an issue of serious concern and
has decided to seek an explanation from the former Secretary as
per the constitution. The executive council also decided to seek
an explanation from Bobby George regarding the remarks during
the prize distribution ceremony. Meanwhile, the Council has requested Mr. Selson Lukose, Joint
Secretary to deliver the duties of the Secretary until the new
Secretary has been elected in the next general body meeting. The
Council regrets this unexpected and painful incident, and
appreciates the MMA members who have been constructive,
accommodative and who have exercised restraint in this incident.
On
a lighter note, we are organising a seminar on “Immigration and Race relations” on the same day at
2 pm on 29-10-05 at the West Indies Community Hall. This
seminar will be highly beneficial to our members in being
informed about the recent
changes to the
immigration policies as well as improving
race relations within the wider community.
Followed by this, the
general body meeting will commence
at 5 pm to discuss our future programmers, along with other
issues related to the Association. We are seeking the full
cooperation from our esteemed members towards both programs.
With
Best
Wishes
Selson
Lookose
Joint
Secretary
