WORKSHOP ON CRIME
PREVENTION AND ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

The Manchester Malayalee Association, in collaboration with ACICM, organised a knowledge sharing workshop on “Crime prevention
and Anti-social Behavior” on the 17th of December at the Manchester
Bridge Club. The event was attended by Ms. Yvonne Davies JP and Mr. Mike
Enderby JP of Magistrates’s Association, and, Mr. Gerry McGowan, Superintendent of GMP. Dr
Yogesh Virmani of ACICM
chaired the session.
The idea of this workshop was to
increase the awareness on behaviour that causes or is likely to cause
harassment, alarm or distress. Furthermore, the rise in house burglary, vehicle
related thefts and vandalism have a negative effect on many in the city, and
communities become victims of crime. The idea was to increase the awareness and
knowledge of the measures against these social dangers which will enable
memebrs of ethnic minorities to be in a better position to protect themselves
and their property. Such sessions aimed at empowering the community will have
strong externalities to improve the quality of life and enable positive
integration and social cohesion. All the speakers provided valuable information
on ASBOs and also outlined various dimensions of implementing the legislation. The
speakers further provided information about opportunities for members from
various communities within the police and the legal system.
